Geographic Area Maintenance

You use this program to capture and maintain details of geographic areas required within the system.

Geographic Area Details

Field Description
Geographic area information
Geographic area Indicates the code for the geographic area you are adding or maintaining.
Description Indicates the name associated with the geographic area. This assists you in verifying that the correct geographic area has been entered.
Tax options You can only access this section if your tax system is based on geographic area (Tax Options).
Use tax code from stock item

Uses the Tax code held against the stock item to determine the applicable rate of tax during processing in either the Sales Order Entry or AR Invoice Posting programs (instead of the Tax code entered here).

See also: Notes and warnings.

Tax code

If you do not want to use the tax code defined against the stock item for sales in this geographic area, then you must enter a valid tax code in this field.

Tax codes are maintained using the Browse on Tax Codes program.

GST options

These options apply only if:

  • your nationality code is defined as CAN; and
  • the tax system is by geographic area; and
  • Canadian GST is enabled.
Use GST code from stock item

Uses the GST code held against the stock item to determine the applicable GST during processing in either the Sales Order Entry or AR Invoice Posting programs (instead of the GST code entered here).

See also: Notes and warnings.

GST code

Enter a valid GST code (in the range A-H) here if you do not want the GST code from the stock item to be used for sales in this geographic area.

The GST code is not applicable if either the customer or the stock item is exempt from GST.

Provincial tax calculated on GST

Calculates provincial tax on the invoice line value as well as on any GST.

[Note]

This option does not apply if you have enabled a basic tax system (Tax Options). Therefore, regardless of your selection here, provincial tax (PST) is always calculated on top of GST.

Notes and warnings

Coding considerations

  • The geographic area is a 10-character alphanumeric field.

Tax considerations

  • If you are using the geographic area to apply different tax rules to sale amounts, then the sales areas must match the tax areas or be a portion of the tax area.

  • If you enable the Use Tax(or GST) code from stock item option, then the Promotion tax code is used for Trade Promotions. If the Promotion tax code is not defined (Trade Promotion Setup) then no tax is applied to Trade Promotions, regardless of the tax options defined against the geographic area.

Deletion considerations

  • SYSPRO does not validate whether any customers are attached to the geographic area when you delete a geographic area.

  • You cannot process sales orders for customers that belong to a geographic area that has been deleted.

Application Help Pane

Application Help Panes provide step-by-step instructions for various functions within the program, including a brief overview of what the program does, what setup options are required and how to personalize the program. The intention is that the pane provides information that is uncluttered and easy to navigate.

You can embed an Application Help Pane:

  • in the main SYSPRO menu

  • in any program with panes, if not using roles

  • when adding a role layout in Design Mode.
