ECC Change ECO status

This program is the heart of the ECC workflow system and performs all events and status changes for engineering change orders.

Add Where Used

This screen is displayed when you add a change order action.

Field Description
Exclude parent parts which do not have affected items in its current structure?
Yes

Select to only include items that are affected in their current structure. The parent items are only included if the component exists on the structure for its current revision/release.

This means that only ECC parent parts which have the ECC components in the current structure of the parent will be included as affected items. Current means the latest BOM Structure of the parent part where the revision and release of the parent are equal to the inventory master revision and release.

No Select this to process the structures for ALL Revisions and Releases for all affected parent parts. (i.e. all items which have the components defined against any structure are included).

This means that if one of the affected items you added is only included in a structure that applied to a non-current revision/release, then the parent is still included in the list - the parent part is added with its current revision and release.

New Revision/Release

This screen is displayed when you select the Apply BOM Changes function from the Change Orders program.

Field Description
Automatic Revision/Release Numbering
Increment Rev Select this to increment the Revision level for the item.

This option only applies if your Revision numbering is set to Automatic (Bill of Materials Setup - Numbering tab).

Increment Rel Select this to increment the Release level for the item.

This only applies if your Release numbering is set to Automatic (Bill of Materials Setup - Numbering tab).

If you selected the option: Increment release within revision and you go back a revision, the release is incremented from the last release within the revision. If you did not select this option, then the release numbering starts at zero again.

Increment Rev of all affected items Select this to increment the Revision level for all items on the change order.
Stock code This indicates the code of the stock item for which you are setting the Revision/Release level.
Description This indicates the description defined against the stock code.
New rev Indicate the new revision level for the item.

This only applies if your Revision numbering is set to Manual (Bill of Materials Setup - Numbering tab).

You can only decrement this value if you selected the option: Allow non-sequential entries (Bill of Materials Setup - Numbering tab), otherwise the new revision level must be higher than the current revision level.

When you decrement the revision level, a warning message is displayed, enabling you to confirm that you want to proceed.

Current Rev This indicates the current revision level of the item.
New Rel Indicate the new release level for the item.

You can only access this field if your Release numbering is set to Manual (Bill of Materials Setup - Numbering tab).

You can only decrement this value if you selected the option: Allow non-sequential entries (Bill of Materials Setup - Numbering tab), otherwise the new release level must be higher than the current release level.

When you decrement the release level, a warning message is displayed, enabling you to confirm that you want to proceed.

Current Rel This indicates the current release level of the item.
Archive options These options are only enabled if you selected the setup option: Structure and routing archiving - Immediate (prompted) (Bill of Materials Setup - Engineering Change Control Tab).
Archive old Rel/Rel Select this to archive the bill of material for the previous revision/release of the item.

If you choose not to archive the bill of material at this stage, then you can still archive the bill of material manually using the Structure and Routing Archive program.

Apply to all affected items Select this to archive all affected items on the bill of materials.
OK Select this to accept your changes.

For functions which affect the structure and routing, a tick over screen is displayed indicating that processing is occurring for the affected items against the ECO.

When the option Allow cosmetic changes is set to Automatic control (Bill of Materials Setup):

  • The check for major changes are performed on components of a component sub assembly when the component sub assembly is an affected item.

If a component was added as an affected item which is against a component sub assembly affected item and does not have a structure and routing, then this is deemed a major change and is rolled up to the parent affected item.

  • A major component sub assembly change is only applied to the parent affected item when the component revision and release are current on the parent or when the BOM setup option Roll-up ECO changes to update parent is enabled.

  • If no major changes are found against a component sub assembly and when the component sub assembly is processed the revision and release are updated, then this is not recognised by the higher level parent affected items and the prompt to keep the revision and release of a product unchanged is displayed at the parent levels.

The same process of checking for major changes apply when tracking release.

You are prompted to change the Revision/Release when the Allow cosmetic changes is set to Manual control (Bill of Materials Setup).

The Revision/release is updated for all changes when the Allow cosmetic changes is set to No (Bill of Materials Setup).

Hints and tips

Record amendments

  • You can generate a report of ECC status changes to stock items if you enable the Amendment journals required setup option (Inventory Setup).

Program access

  • This program cannot be run standalone and is called from Change Order Actions when events are actioned by users, or from Change Orders when non-action type events are fired.
