BOM Update Unit of Measure

You use this program to update all bills for parent and/or component items where the unit of measure has been re-defined. This avoids you having to maintain each bill separately to change the unit of measure for amended stock item(s).

Unit of Measure Options

Field Description
Stock codes
Stock code selection Indicate the stock item(s) for which you want to change the unit of measure against the bill.

Notional parts, Kit parts, Planning bills and Phantom parts cannot be included.

Route selection If you enabled the Alternate routings required setup option (Bill of Materials Setup) then you can indicate the route for which you want to change the bill of material.
Update options
Unit of measure to apply
Field Description
Stocking Changes the unit of measure to stocking for the selected stock item(s).
Alternate Changes the unit of measure to alternate for the selected stock item(s).
Other Changes the unit of measure to other for the selected stock item(s).
Manufacturing Changes the unit of measure to manufacturing for the selected stock item(s).
Recalculate entered quantities from factors Select this to change unit of measure factor for the selected stock item(s).

This is used when you change a unit of measure factor in the Stock Code Maintenance program. For example you change the Other unit of measure from:

1 Other = 5 Each to 1 Other = 10 Each.

Operators can indicate a unit of measure in which to capture and this may then be converted back to the stocking unit of measure. Therefore this option recalculates the BOM entered values when the unit of measure factor is changed against the stock item.

Recalculate stocking quantities from factors Select this to change the stocking unit of measure factor for the selected stock item(s).

This is used when you change the Stocking unit of measure factor in the Stock Code Maintenance program.

For example:

Your Stocking of measure is currently Lbs and your Manufacturing unit of measure is Oz (where 16 oz = 1 Lb).

You now change the Stocking unit of measure to Kg, where 1 Kg = 2.20462 Lbs.

You set the Alternate uom to Lbs = Kg / 2.20462 and the Manufacturing unit of measure to be Oz = Kg / 35.2740.

Selecting this option will recalculate the BOM entered values using these factors.

BOM level to update Indicate whether you want to change the Parent item, or the Component item, or Both.

You typically select Both if you have sub-assemblies (particularly if a stock item could be both a parent and a component item).

Update Details

This pane indicates the changes made to each stock item. The list view is sorted by stock code and you can select the Stock code function to display the stock codes in ascending or descending sequence.

Column Description
Change type This can be one of the following:
  • Parent information

This indicates changes to the parent Unit of measure.

  • Structure changes as parent

This indicates changes to the parent component Quantity per and Fixed parent quantity.

  • Operation changes as parent

This indicates changes to parent operation Run time, Start-up quantity, Rate/Block quantity, Scrap quantity and Transfer quantity.

  • Structure changes as component

This indicates changes to subassembly Unit of measure, Quantity per and Scrap quantity.

Field changed This indicates the fields that have changed against the bill of materials.
Old value This indicates the previous value of the field.
New value This indicates the current value of the field (i.e. what the field was changed to).

eSignature considerations

Electronic Signatures provide security access, transaction logging and event triggering. This enables you to increase control over your system changes.

Access to the following eSignature transactions within this program can be restricted at Operator, Group, Role or Company level. You configure this using the Electronic Signatures program.

eSignature Transaction Description
BOM Update unit of measure

Controls access to the BOM Update Unit of Measure program.

Database considerations

  • This program makes changes to your database. You are therefore strongly advised to back up your data before running this program.

Journal considerations

  • Amendment journals for changes to components are created if you enabled the Structure amendment journals required setup option (Bill of Materials Setup).

  • If the unit of measure for an ECC controlled component is changed, the ECC consumption method will be written to the BOM and ECC amendment journals.

Application Help Pane

Application Help Panes provide step-by-step instructions for various functions within the program, including a brief overview of what the program does, what setup options are required and how to personalize the program. The intention is that the pane provides information that is uncluttered and easy to navigate.

You can embed an Application Help Pane:

  • in the main SYSPRO menu

  • in any program with panes, if not using roles

  • when adding a role layout in Design Mode.

Inserting Application Help

You would typically follow this procedure to display help for the current program in a customized pane that can be pinned to the program window.

Information includes step-by-step instructions for the various functions available within the program, including a brief overview of what the program does, what setup options are required and how to personalize the program.

  1. Open the program for which you want to insert application help into a customized pane.

This functionality is only available for a program that has panes.

  2. Right-click any form field.

You can also click the triangle menu icon that appears in the title area of a pane.

  3. Select Insert Application Help from the context-sensitive menu.

The application help appears in a pane within your program. You can reposition the pane using the docking stickers or pin it to the program window.

Removing the Application Help pane

If you no longer want to display application help in a pane for your current program, you can simply remove it.

  1. Select the Close icon in the right-hand corner of the application help pane.

  2. Confirm that you want to delete the pane.
