You use this program to create and maintain trade promotions price breaks for selected stock items based on the mass, volume or quantity of the item sold.
Price breaks can be applied to individual stock items or to stock items in a specific product class, product group or department. These prices are then be applied to customers in a specific geographic area, buying group or customer class.
In addition, you can define delivered prices and collect (pick up) prices for the stock items. The Ship via code defined against the customer (AR Customer Maintenance - Contact tab) is used to determine whether the delivered or pick up prices must be used when a sales order is processed for that customer.

Field | Description | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Remove | Select this to delete the price break entry currently highlighted. | ||||
Quantity | Indicate the quantity of items that you want to link
to the price. This quantity/mass/volume is the upper limit
for the price and reflects the quantity/mass/volume of
purchase required to qualify for the bracket price.
For example: If you enter 10 in this field and the Basis is Quantity, then the price applies to quantities of 1-10 of the item inclusive (see Price Bracket Examples). |
||||
Price | Indicate the price that must be applied to sales of
the quantity/mass/ volume of the item entered in the
Quantity field. This field is only displayed of you selected Price at the Type field.
|
||||
Percentage | Indicate the percentage by which the selling price of the item must be reduced for sales of the quantity/mass/ volume of the item entered in the Quantity field. This field is only displayed of you selected Percentage at the Type field. |
Different brackets can be defined to quantify items for bracket pricing. These reflect limits of purchase required by basis to qualify for bracket pricing. The quantity is an upper limit.
Example 1
The price basis is set to Quantity and the following price breaks are defined:
Quantity | Price |
---|---|
50 | 95.0000 |
100 | 90.0000 |
150 | 85.0000 |
200 | 80.0000 |
300 | 75.0000 |
According to these price breaks, a price of 95.00 is applied to items of quantities up to and including 50. A price of 90.00 is applied to items of quantities up to and including 100. There is no price specified for 301 or more items, which means that these items are charged at 75.00.
Price brackets can apply across multiple line items within an order.
For example, if you defined a product group PIZZA, then all stock items within the product group PIZZA receive the price for the price bracket for the total quantity/mass/volume of the product group.
For example:
The following items belong to the product group PIZZA:
The Basis is Quantity and the customer orders the following:
90 Pepperoni Pizza Bites
70 Cheesy Pizza Bites
The total quantity for the order and product group PIZZA is 160 (90 + 70). According to the above Price Breaks, each line item is charged at 80.00 (i.e. the customer is charged for 90 Pepperoni Pizza Bites at 80.00 and for 70 Cheesy Pizza Bites at 80.00).
Example 2:
Trade promotions pricing is cumulative.
For example, you defined the following price breaks for stock item A100:
Quantity | Price |
---|---|
10 | 550.00 |
20 | 500.00 |
You process a sales order line for stock item A100 for a quantity of 10. The price on this order line will be 550.00.
You then process an additional line for stock item A100 for a quantity of 3. The price on both order lines changes to 500.00 as the sale is now for a total quantity of 13 which falls into the next price bracket.
Trade promotions pricing is not applied to sales to customers who have contract pricing defined against them (see Contract Prices).
The price of a stock item is over-ridden by the price defined here for the threshold quantity if:
the customer belongs to a geographic area, buying group or customer class for which a trade promotions price is defined or a trade promotions price is defined that applies to all customers
a trade promotions price is defined for the stock item itself, or the stock item belongs to a product group, product class or department for which a trade promotions price is defined (Stock Code Maintenance - Trade Promotions Pricing)
the price type and price basis defined against the stock item (Stock Code Maintenance - Trade Promotions tab) matches the price type and price basis defined against the price break for that item (Price Table Maintenance)
